Rosacea

Rosacea is a common, long-term inflammatory skin condition that causes redness and bumps, most often seen on the nose, cheeks and forehead.

What is it?

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that causes skin redness or rashes. It predominantly affects middle-aged individuals and those with light skin complexion. Oftentimes, rosacea can be misdiagnosed as acne, allergic reactions, or eczema due to similarities in symptoms.

The symptoms of rosacea include small, red, pimple-like bumps filled with pus on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and occasionally eyes. Other common signs of this skin condition are facial swelling, dry and flaky skin, noticeable broken blood vessels, constant skin redness, or frequent flushing and blushing episodes.

At Dermatologists of Greater Columbus, our team of board-certified dermatologists regularly diagnose and treat rosacea, making it one of the more prevalent skin conditions we address. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, book an appointment at one of our offices located in Dublin, Columbus, Canal Winchester, Urbana, Circleville, Washington Courthouse, Grove City and Marysville, Ohio. We pride ourselves in patient-centered care and creating a treatment plan that puts you at the forefront.

How is it treated?

While there isn't a cure for rosacea, our dermatologists are available to assist you in creating an effective treatment strategy to control your symptoms. First, they will help pinpoint the specific causes of your rosacea flare-ups. Understanding your unique triggers can greatly diminish the frequency and intensity of your symptoms. Next, they will provide treatments such as topical medication, oral antibiotics, in addition to laser and light therapy. These treatments can significantly alleviate the symptoms associated with rosacea.
