Warts are benign, rough protrusions that appear on the skin when the body is invaded by a viral infection through a nick or tear in the skin.
What is it?
Warts are typically non-cancerous (benign), small skin growths caused by viral infections or strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Although they pose no health risk, many of our patients opt to have them removed due to the fact that they can be transmitted through touch and simply because they prefer not to have these warts lingering on their skin.
There are several types of warts, like plantar warts, common warts and flat warts. Typically, common warts are found on hands, fingers, around the nails, or on the back of hands. Plantar warts manifest on the soles of the feet and can lead to discomfort if left untreated. Flat warts can spring up anywhere on the body, while filiform warts have a thread-like appearance on the face.
