What is it?
Eliminating tattoos can be a multifaceted task that may necessitate several appointments to fully erase the tattoo(s) since the ink seeps beneath the surface of your skin. The success and safety of the treatment are predominantly reliant on the expertise of the provider conducting the tattoo removal, which is why the American Academy of Dermatology advises having a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist, such as those at our dermatology clinic.
Tattoo removal is typically an outpatient procedure and, if desired by the patient, a local anesthetic can be applied to alleviate pain and discomfort. Small, aged tattoos in black, brown, dark blue, and green shades tend to be easier to erase. However, larger, newer tattoos featuring a broader spectrum of colors are more demanding to remove.
Our medical practice serves the communities of Dublin, Columbus, Canal Winchester, Urbana, Circleville, Washington Courthouse, Grove City and Marysville, Ohio. What to expect
There are numerous methods for tattoo removal, with laser tattoo removal being the most prevalent. The laser discharges intense light pulses and utilizes specific light wavelengths to target the tattoo. This process disintegrates the ink into tiny particles that your body will eventually absorb and expel. To safely and effectively remove your tattoo, multiple treatments spread over a period of time will be necessary. Given that the ink is applied in layers during the tattooing process, these layers need a gradual breakdown and elimination by your body after each laser session. It's common to experience temporary redness, swelling, and minor blistering following treatment. A gradual lightening of the tattoo is to be expected after each treatment.
